MacFab Sale-ing

My classmate (sewing class) told me that there would be a Mac Fab basement sale this past weekend. I could not resist the urge to check it out. I made the decision to skip the Value Village 50% off sale this past Monday so that I could indulge in the basement bargains.
I bought some beautiful wool coating at $6 per metre and now my plan is to make myself a nice fall jacket. Can't wait!!!
But the cutest thing is I brought my son along because he was promised a little shopping spree as he was in desperate need of jeans, long sleeve T's and hoodies. My son, Malik, found a huge bin of buttons while we were at the sale so I asked him if he would like to pick out some buttons for me. He carefully dredged the box of buttons selecting them one by one and putting them in a little plastic bag. I was pleasantly surprised at how busy this task kept him and how much he seemed to enjoy the shapes and sizes, colours and textures.
When I got home I sorted them according to colour and showed Malik his finds all sorted out. He told me why he selected various buttons, whether or not he thought I would like them, which he liked best and he even chose some metal military-style buttons because he was thinking about my partner (a history buff).
I think I am rubbing off on him...YESSS...

LadeeBee Wins a Prediction

Did you ever want something and you got it even though the odds are not on your side. If you think about it, it had to be someone that it happened to, so why not you? Like the lottery for example. I would love to win the lottery, who wouldn't? But what are the odds? If you think about it someone has to win it and it could be you. I love to win things. Have you ever heard anyone say they hated to win stuff? Free stuff is the best. I feel like I won something when I am walking in my 'hood and there is like the perfect item on the curb that someone decided to toss. Or I am walking along the sidewalk and I find a $20 bill (it's only happened once). It just makes your day, even if it is a small thing.
So the other day I was watching a show on CBC called Steven and Chris. It is a daily morning morning talk show where they discuss DIY projects, decorating, make-up, fashion, kitchen gadgets and the likes. They had a psychic on the show-Psychic Nikki. Nikki made various predictions on chosen studio members love lives and careers. Then Steven, or Chris (I can't remember which) told the audience watching at home (me) that if we went to the website and filled out a ballot online we could win a reading from Psychic Nikki. So I went to my computer and filled out my ballot, like a good home viewer, and you guessed it I was one of the winners.
I asked Nikki about my career direction. I have two passions, working with young women and their children, and making things with my hands. Nikki said she sees crafts all around me and she really likes that for me. Yeah, like crafts are always all around me. She said she saw me opening a craft shop within 3 years, I will have a business partner (called Eve) who is older, experienced, has done this stuff before. Also, I don't know this person now, but I will meet her within the next year. She has blue eyes and curly blond hair. Nikki sees me teaching workshops. How fun!
So Eve, if you are out there give me a holler.

LadeeBee Revives the Vintage Baby

I have been longing to knit up some sweet little baby things for the last little while. So, I dug up some of the old patterns that my grandmother gave me, searched through some of the vintage patterns I bought second hand, and perused my large assortment of vintage crafting encyclopedias to find a project that inspired me. I have all this wonderful cotton yarn sitting on my shelf so the first place I started was with a hoodie. I personally love to wear hoodies and seeing a little baby in one just makes me want to drool. I have so many ideas for this new line of infant clothing I am developing that my hands can't keep up with all of them.
On top of all the other crafting projects I have on the go, I decided to get into carving stamps. I picked up a little starter kit at an art shop downtown. I decided to start with a mushroom and an owl. I drew little sketches on the tracing paper, rubbed them onto the surface of the stamp-to-be and began carving away all the space that I didn't want to be a part of the final image. I had to look in my books for inspiration for my third design and I found the little birdie out of a 1974 encyclopedia. I found some fabric ink at a local stamp shop and VOILA the little onesies were born.
I am currently working on producing baby booties, hats and mitts out of reclaimed wool sweaters that have been felted. So keep an eye out for my new designs in my new shop on etsy called "Vintage Baby Revival". So please visit my new shop and I hope you enjoy drooling over these as much as I do.
